Brewkettle, which is owned by an Italian family, is a traditional Italian-style pizza.
But in Australia, its popularity has taken a downturn, with the popularity of its “hot water” beer in the past few years having sparked a backlash from some locals.
This week, the Brewkettles owners announced they would be opening a new location in Melbourne, and will open a new “beer garden” in the area.
Brewkettelis menu has a range of pizzas including a sweet and savoury, with a “saltier” version of the pizzas.
The beer garden has the potential to attract beer lovers and brewers, said the Brewkellers, but it would also have a detrimental impact on the local economy.
“The idea is that people will come in and pay for a good beer, and then they won’t come back,” the BrewKettlers said.
“[It’s] going to be a negative impact on our local economy.”
The Brewketts said their beers were brewed in the UK, and their Italian-inspired menu was “designed to appeal to a wider range of drinkers”.
“I think it’s a good idea to think about how you can make sure you’re not alienating the local beer drinkers, and we think that’s where the focus needs to be,” Mr Brewkeller said.
“We can’t really change the way we do it in terms of the beer we make.
It’s a matter of having an attractive menu and the beer itself.”
It’s going to create some really strong competition, which means that it will make the market really competitive.
“Beer garden ‘pizzas for everyone’The BrewKettle owners have previously announced plans to open a second location in the state’s south-east.
But a spokeswoman for Melbourne Beer Growers Association said they were unable to comment on the Brewkelers plans because the location was being “built in secret”.
The spokeswoman said the association was aware of the Brew Kettle plans, but could not comment on them.
In the meantime, Melbourne’s beer garden remains closed.
